Honoring and Promoting Puppetry Arts

EVENTS

“Puppetry Self-Marketing 101″and the School of Hard Knocks

 Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 2-4PM

“Nobody’s looking for a puppeteer in today’s wintry economic climate.”

complained the unemployed Craig Schwartz, the character portrayed by John Cusack in “Being John Malkovich.”

We all struggle to get our art and ideas out in front of paying clients, and Sunday, March 11 from 2-4PM will be CPG and friends’ opportunity to share what we know, what’s been working, and the “Dr. Phil” stuff that’s not helped your business.
This is Arts Marketing, Personal Empowerment, Creative Egotism, and Shameless Self-Promotion rolled into an afternoon. (A short period of grousing and feeling somewhat sorry for ourselves will precede the ideas session).
Dave Herzog will lead the discussion with an overview (from a safe distance) of the Herzog Marionettes’ Promotional Juggernaut (ver. 3.0), and you are encouraged to bring examples of your own mailings, e-mail blasts, and web site ideas that seem to have done you some good.

The usual potluck, featuring an amazing variety of waist-expanding items, will be part of our meeting, which starts at 2PM and ends at 4PM. Thanks to Jean Vanier (aka Jeannie McQueenie!) for hosting our group at her home in Beverly 9124 S Hoyne Avenue.

The Daylight Savings Fairy arrives the same morning in the wee hours, so “Spring Forward.”

Don’t worry about the big South Side Irish Parade  that day along  South Western Avenue…much to the South of Jean’s.

Past Meetings

Our Sunday, November 13th gathering is in the Oak Park Public Library, ( Lake St. and Oak Park Ave.) with a wonderful view from their Storytime Room (shown here) either of the kids dept. or the big park, …buried in leaves or in snow, take your pick.

We’ll have a short Board meeting at 2PM, followed from 2:30-4:00 by a “Puppeteers’ Potpourri” and Q&A with kids and families. Short demonstrations and character pieces welcome, as are the puppets kids may bring in from home to ask “How do I…?”

Featured Keynote Speaker will be Frank Lloyd Wright’s puppet avatar, Frankie, shown below…

We appreciate the Library’s hospitality in providing this meeting space for our community outreach work, and if you’d like to be a part of it please get in touch with the Guild here and we’ll slot you in! All styles welcome, as are all puppet fans who’d like a chance to informally try on puppeting for size!
